As I’ve mentioned before, I love to browse through other peoples’ favourite websites, cup in hand. Today I’m going to show you some more of mine.
“Lifestyle” sites that offer that little bit more …
The first on the list is written by an American woman, Katy Wolk-Stanley who writes about non consumerism. She and her husband both work part-time and are putting their sons through college. Neither has a particularly high income so they’re able to do this primarily through her efforts at saving and making money. Although the site is mostly about saving money, she writes about day to day life making ends meet, upcycling items she’s found outside peoples’ houses and, importantly, what she calls “frugal fails”. Sometimes when you’re in the middle of things, desperately trying to save money and not quite making it, it’s good to know that someone else is in the same circumstances –
This site was created by Dana White, a Texan housewife who puts a quirky spin on cleaning and decluttering. When she created the site originally she called herself Nony – short for anonymous – The Slob. She offers a very honest outlook on managing a home when you’re less than organised. Dana has a background in the arts and her podcasts can be funny. If you’re not the tidiest or housework orientated of people then this site offers hope – or at the very least light relief from the daily grind.
This Canadian site is even quirkier. Written by Karen Bertelesen, it comes with a warning. She swears. Not on every page, but be warned all the same. I love this site as it’s a true reflection of a very real woman. Comedy, tragedy, swearing and DIY all done by a woman. What more could you ask?
Karen was a tv host in Canada for many years and her podcasts are incredibly professional in consequence. It’s hard to do justice to the site in a brief description but if you like DIY, swearing and chickens you’ll love this site!
I hope you’ve enjoyed these sites – they are real favourites and I’d love to hear about your favourites too.
